Return of the Prodigal Son
This has been one of the best CNY so far.
Instead of shunning the CNY season as the years pass, I was actually looking forward to it. I think we have all come to terms with the fact that we are going to meet some of the cousins only once a year. With such a hectic lifestyle in Singapore, how else often can one come together if not for these festivities. It certainly beats not meeting at all, and we really cherish the time we had together to catch up on everyone's happenings.
Er GG was unusually happy. Guess cos Cousin AM was around. Haven't seen him for a long long time as CNY had always been a boring affair for him, and together with all the scraps that he got himself into over the years. Though she had lost her voice, there was a cheerfulness and contentment about GG that I have never seen on her face. There was also a rootedness in little R as I saw her huddling close to her Daddy, who was finally home with her for CNY.
All my GGs had a hard time during their younger days and with so many mouths to feed. It was pure tenacity that had made them pulled through to raise their kids. For the first time I really felt that it really does not matter to them whether their children is a lawyer or how well they do. They are contented just knowing that they have a stable job, and having them by their side.
"AM told me not to do anything this CNY and that he would do all the cooking... AM tried to do springcleaning and the stove fell off the top shelf... AM is now busy with the stall, and I don't even have to go down now... AM..."
